"Ya Allah, aku berlindung denganMu daripada kegelisahan dan kesedihan, dan aku berlindung dengan-Mu daripada sifat lemah dan malas, dan aku berlindung dengan-Mu dari sifat penakut dan bakhil, dan aku berlindung dengan-Mu daripada bebanan hutang dan penindasan manusia."

*proud*

just got back from gambang & kuantan for the weekend with my family. sis's company held her family day at gambang resort city, gambang since friday and ended yesterday. so, kami pun berangkut juga ke sana. it was a nice place, newly built so everything was new and no complaints lodged.

most of the time were spent at the pool, be it at the resort or the water park. the resort, since dia besar dan luas, they have a huge huge swimming pool for kids. and not so big swimming pool for adults. didn't get to try the adult's pool so cukup la main-main kat kiddies pool saje. photo above showed the 'deepest' pool for kids, this is small tapi yang lagi satu tu sangat la besar. kalah adult punya pool tau.

this trip wass my first time driving kat karak highway, so the going time was very loongg and relaxing since we were in no rush at all. so, dari shah alam at 10.30am we stopped at 3 or 4 places before finally reached the resort. but coming home time, it was already late afternoon so haruslah cepat dan pantas untuk sampai rumah.

also my first time wearing the slinky dress from thepoplook, the arms opening for this dress is a bit besar my cardigan couldn't cover it up so i turned my denim shirt to a jacket.

Precious tips from Neeza

One of the blog I always refer to, in search of sewing tips is NeezaNeedles by Neeza. And her tips on how to price handmade products is really really useful. So, let me share with you kat sini jugak ya.

"So, how to make profit:
1)If you doing your business seriously and wanted to chase for the wholesale market, BUY your raw material wholesale. You'll get raw at cheap price and now you can make profit out of your selling item. But remember, buying wholesale meaning you will get like a dozen meter of same fabrics or 1000pieces of same type of buttons. So, make sure the whole thing is no joke or you'll ended with no space to walk in your own house.
2)If you just making your business for spare time, buying your raw material in retail store is sufficient enough.

How to charge for an item:
The simple calculation is:
Raw items (fabrics + zipper + buttons + etc) + man power (how good is you) + time consume (how easy/hard to make the stuff) = You get the price

eg:
(Fabric: rm5 + zipper: rm2 + buttons: rm3 + thread: rm1) + rm5 + rm5 = rm20
(this is an average price for making a simple pencil case/ clutch)

OK, I hope this help. If you still uncertainty on how to put price for your items, listened to Rule#1: follow what other people are offering but make sure you're making the profits. It is good to be as same as other people, rather than being too cheap. People will start to query your product quality, and at the same time you're killing your own business (later how to survive if not making profit???)."

Sunday, November 21

dah lama tak tulis pasal my sewing stuffs kan? recently i bought this book by amy butler. that was after checking out the book at craftsworld (mr. yee proudly showed me his book signed by amy butler herself tapi okay la sign je kan.. buku masih sama). he mentioned that the book is not here yet in malaysia so i searched around and found an entry by Rozi from Rozi's Needlework. she's looking for crafters who want to pool order for this book but then tak cukup orang. tapi rezeki la kot, i searched lagi and found this book at Kinokuniya :)

suka tau, terus beli tanpa pikir panjang lagi dah. panjang lebar kan, thing is nak bagitau that I bought the book already. why i like it? sebab this book provided patterns for every single bags in it. and she labeled it according to difficulties (mine, haruslah "easy")

tapi, one thing kureng sikit is tak banyak gambar. i mean, there are only a few photos (sketches) on the steps. the rest, you have to read the instruction and use your imaginations.

excited mesti lebih.

my colleague already ordered one bag she saw from the book. will take few more months for me to complete her order, sebab kena le belajar dulu ye akak.

(walaupun ada je yang kurang kesedaran) tapi, having a pet is nice kan? at least you have someone to bully play with when you got nothing to do. fish is good, tengok ikan berenang boleh rasa tenang. maybe fish is a good idea.

saBtuday

my saturday was spent at two places, jalan TAR and craftsworld PJ. my mom is around in kl so we took her to her favorite place in the whole kl, jalan TAR. beli apa lagi kan, scarves and blouses at semua house, brooches at the shoplots tepi jalan tu.

azh 089

linkqueen as always, gave me tips on where to buy some nice shawls at cheap price. so once i’m done with my project ‘T’, terus proceed to ‘abg nick carter’ shawl booth. and seriously it is cheap. i bought the gipsy shawl or whatever you call it, the shawls with beads at the end for only RM13. the day before, i bought a same style shawl for RM25 each. murah? murah kan?? sorry takda gambar tudung tu.

azh 093
sis, mom, yours truly. semua dah penat

next destination was craftsworld, lepas tergoda dengan cerita-cerita from fellow crafters about how nice the shop is. terus nak pergi. thing is, i don’t know the way and my gps is not really helping. my sis followed with her car (not knowing that i’m clueless about the place) patiently. so after a few rounds of u-turns, i finally terfikir untuk call erin who then asked her mom, and lepas tu baru jumpa jalan kebenaran.
the owner, mr. yee siap tanya from where that i happened to know about his shop. “u heard from blog?” haha see? besar kan kuasa marketing guna blog ni. craftworld happened to have sale now until the end of december so memang banyak benda yang nice.

azh 096
the fabrics starts from rm20 per meter

azh 098
orang-orang yang hampir mabuk memilih barang

azh 100
the damage to my pocket.

i would say the price are reasonable, if you’re a member. how to be a member? you are entitled to be a member if you purchase anything worth rm100 in a single receipt. the tips, beli kain murah worth rm20 per meter tu like 5 meters, then dah jadi member. then baru beli kain yang mahal sikit using the 20% discounts.
and here are more new fabbies for you to chose from if you want to order my crafts

love hate relationship: siblings

this song is sang by KRU (boy band kesukaan kita zaman sekolah rendah dulu) for their latest movie, magika. i didn't watch the movie but some of my friends did and they said it's worth watching. takpelah, maybe raya next year dah ada kat astro inshaAllah.

okay, the song.. i super love the lyrics. really really reminds me of my relationship with my sisters all these years. we had arguments, rows, there are times that we didn't talk to each other for few weeks, sometimes we say things that hurt each other BUT deep inside we love each other very very very much, and we are very protective of each of us. like you mess with my sis, you mess with me.

"kerana air dicincang takkan putus"

okay nak sambung buat assignment

forgotten

forgot

i guess i was so into something, that i forgotten something else that is also super important in my life. i must learn to prioritize things.

PRIORITIZE ajjah!

thank Allah for the sudden thought of that something.

seriously sangat sangat sangat thankful.

Of Child Abuse

This entry is to support UNICEF's Stop Child Abuse Campaign. I first heard about this campaign from my senior at college and also read about it at MBP. Here are some useful infos on child abuse that I would like to share with you. Or you can also click on the photo to be directed to the website as we are still way too far from the target of 100,000 Malaysians supporting this campaign.
WHO IS A CHILD?

A child is anyone under the age of 18 according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and Malaysia’s Child Act 2001. The CRC states that children everywhere are entitled to basic human rights. All these rights are interconnected and of equal importance since each right is inherent to the human dignity and harmonious development of every child regardless of age, gender or religion

WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?

Child abuse (and neglect known formally by United Nations agencies as child maltreatment) is harm (or risk of harm) caused to a child by a parent, guardian or another person in a position of responsibility, trust or power over the child. There are four major types of child abuse:

• Neglect: failure to provide for a child’s basic needs.
• Physical abuse: punching, beating, kicking, biting, burning, shaking, stabbing, choking, or otherwise harming a child.
• Sexual abuse: fondling a child’s genitals, penetration, incest, rape, sodomy, indecent exposure, and commercial exploitation through prostitution or the production of pornographic materials.
• Emotional abuse: constant criticism, threats, rejection as well as withholding love, support, or guidance. Child abuse affects children’s health, development and strips away their dignity. In most cases, long-term emotional scars are left behind. Children and young people with special needs, including children with disabilities and those living with HIV and AIDS are particularly vulnerable to abuse. Undocumented children, migrant and refugee children are also at risk.

WHY DOES CHILD ABUSE OCCUR?

Children may be vulnerable to abuse due to several risk and protective factors. When there are multiple risk factors present, the danger of abuse becomes greater. Risk of abuse increases when a child’s:
• Parents are not prepared or have no knowledge of critical issues surrounding parenting.
• Parents lack an understanding of their children’s developmental stages and hold unreasonable expectations for their abilities. Parent’s also may be unaware of how to discipline their children most effectively at each age.
• Parent is experiencing a lot of financial stress such as loss of job, unemployment and diminished income.
• Parent has mental health problems, is living with a chronic illness and experiencing depression.
• Parents are experiencing difficulties in their relationship, exposed to domestic violence in the household, undergoing marital problems, divorce, or feeling the stresses of single parenting, isolation and loneliness.
• Parent is dependent and addicted to drugs or alcohol. These circumstances, combined with the inherent challenges of raising children, may result in otherwise well-intentioned parents causing their children harm or neglecting their needs.

HOW CAN WE PROTECT CHILDREN FROM ABUSE?

Children rely on adults to protect them. As adults, we must:

• Be aware of the possible signs of abuse.
• Learn to recognise the warning signs of abuse: parents under chronic stress, children exhibiting negative and anxious behaviours, signs of physical abuse.
• Encourage families under stress to seek out support services.
• Take action when there is suspicion that a child is being abused. .
• Listen to the child and take what they say seriously.

HOW DO WE RECOGNISE SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS OF CHILD ABUSE?

Learning more about the signs and symptoms of abuse, and knowing how to seek advice or assistance, is the best way to help an abused child. When looking out for signs of child abuse, don’t just think bruises and broken bones. There may also be behavioural or emotional signs, or a combination of several signs. For example, unexplained injuries accompanied by a change in the child’s behaviour could be a sign that something is wrong. Having one or two bruises does not necessarily mean that the child is being abused. But when signs appear repeatedly or in combination with other symptoms, we should be concerned. Signs of abuse may include:

• Unexplained burns, bites, bruises, broken bones, or black eyes
• Injuries to or around the genitals
• Bruises or other marks in various stages of healing indicative of repeated beatings or physical assaults
• Refusing to go to a friend’s or relative’s home for no apparent reason, for example, “I just don’t like him anymore.”
• Acting out adult sexual behavior or sexually explicit language a young child is unlikely to know

HOW IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTED?

Prevention efforts build on family strengths. Through prevention activities such as parent education, home visitation, and parent support groups, many families are able to find the support they need to stay together and care for their children in their homes and communities. Prevention efforts should help parents develop their parenting skills, understand the benefits of nonviolent discipline techniques, and understand and meet their child’s emotional, physical, and developmental needs. Prevention programs also can help parents identify other needs they may have and offer assistance in getting that additional support.

PREVENTING CHILD ABUSE – WHAT WE KNOW

Child abuse and neglect occurs when people find themselves in stressful situations, without community resources, and don’t know how to cope. Majority of child abuse cases stem from situations and conditions that are preventable in an engaged and supportive community. All citizens should become involved in supporting families in raising their children in a safe, nurturing environment. Effective child abuse prevention programs succeed because of partnerships created among families, social service agencies, schools, faith-based communities, NGOs, law enforcement agencies, and the business community.

siti khadijah @ bangi

yesterday after taking my mom for her monthly check-up at ijn, my sis asked me to take her to bandar baru bangi, specifically to siti khadijah's boutique there. dari jalan tun razak at 5pm, dengan jalan yang jammed tu, we reached bandar baru bangi at 6.30pm. just nice before they close the shop at 7pm. actually my sis first saw the boutique on monday when we had our dinner there after her exam at uniten but they were closed already.

they sell some nice telekung, abayas and scarves. the difference of their telekung is that they have awnings for their telekung. everything comes with awnings these days even telekung. agak tak faham. my sis didn't looked nice in it, but mom looked fabulous. terus beli.

we had a tough time with the salesgirl. her explanations were hay-wired. the shop is having sale now, but she clearly mentioned few things that i think will make her boss go mad haha. like why they're having the sale and so on. boleh tak my sis got pressured just by talking to her. agaknya this girl baru sehari kerja, so she's not used to her job yet. but seriously, working as salesperson is not easy okay. you need to know everything, like every single details of what you're selling. or else... you customer will either get angry, bored, and walk off.

one customer got so bored and ended up just sitting at one corner snapping photos.
