Royal Belum, Perak

My family went for a super short trip to the Royal Belum Resort in Gerik, Perak back in June for a mini gathering. With everyone working everywhere now, we get to meet everyone only once in a while.

Reservation was made online, but when we reached there, ready to check in, we were told that some rooms were not available, and we had to take whatever that's left. Sedih kan, but takpe lah. Some of our friends and relatives asked what we think about the resort, and I have a lot to tell but too lazy to type a whole story about it, so here it goes:

Fun:
  1. The area is beautiful. Serene. Sejuk mata memandang
  2. Everyone managed to come, even my brother in law from Kelantan was there too
  3. I tried kayaking for the first time

Problems:
  1. Two out of six rooms, aircond rosak. Luckily ada kipas siling - Tolerable. (but their attitude in settling the problem was soooo irritating)
  2. No recreational activities available for the weekend, reason being: Not enough rangers
  3. No indoor activities (indoor games, gym or what nots) - So takde recreational activities, no nothing
  4. No swimming pool, and not allowed to swim at the lake either
  5. We managed to do kayaking on the morning before we left, hmmm.. Common sense, lepas kayaking surely ada yang terjun into the lake. Tak ada tempat nak pegang or panjat to the mini jetty. Sangat mini.
  6. Only two rooms were provided with tv. Lain takda. If you plan to go there, you MUST mention that you want room with tv, itu pun belum tentu dapat. Because there are only SIX rooms with tv at the resort.
So, we ended up sleeping most of the time there. And catching up with each other's stories. The food were so...so.... No a la carte service during weekends, so you can either travel for 5-10 minutes to the nearest stalls or take their dinner buffet. But we had fun (i did, with my sisters), not sure about the guys as they had to drive all the way from KL.

We then headed to another place in Lumut, and had a good rest & great time. That's another story to share, later.

I would like to wish you Selamat Hari Raya, mohon maaf kalau ada salah silap dalam blog ni.
Drive safely, eat moderately.

The Easiest Upside Down Pineapple Cake

Been looking for a simple cake recipe an this turned out to be the easiest ever! I used food processor instead of cake mixer, and the ingredients are always available in the house (except for glazed cherries). And u know what, the biggest effort would be to arrange the pineapples & cherries. The rest? Super easy!

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients

butter (for greasing)
2 tablespoons sugar
6 slices canned pineapple in juice (plus 3 tablespoons of the juice)
11 glace cherries (approx. 75g total weight)
100 grams plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
100 grams soft butter
100 grams caster sugar
2 large eggs

Method

Preheat the oven to 200°C

Butter a tarte Tatin tin (24cm wide at the top and 20cm diameter at the bottom) or use a 23cm cake tin (neither loose-bottomed nor springform).

Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of sugar on top of the buttered base, and then arrange the pineapple slices to make a circular pattern as in the picture.

Fill each pineapple ring with a glace cherry, and then dot one in each of the spaces in between.

Put the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, butter, caster sugar and eggs into a food processor and run the motor until the batter is smooth. Then pour in the 3 tablespoons of pineapple juice to thin it a little.

Pour this mixture carefully over the cherry-studded pineapple rings; it will only just cover it, so spread it out gently.

Bake for 30 minutes, then ease a spatula around the edge of the tin, place a plate on top and, with one deft - ha! - move, turn it upside-down.

*I used a square cake tin, so 9 slices of pineapples.

Of 2013

Started my new year with media coverage for Sew Fabby by Kosmo newspaper.

Do I still have readers here? So sorry, basically I have nothing much to share lately. I don't really watch news anymore, except for the latest incident in Sabah (may Allah protect our heroes, amin..), I didn't have time to do any blog hopping either. My life is all about sewing, settling the house thingy, and attending bazaars. Boring much? :)

We went to Cambodia last December, to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
Yes, I still travel even though not as much as before.
